In the winter of 1980 I enrolled in a beginner Stained Glass Course at Winter Art Glass Studio, Edmonton, AB. Paul Winter, a German Mastercraftsman was my teacher and became my mentor. He had made his way to Edmonton, AB Canada from Wupperthal, Germany in the mid 50's.
I have returned many times over the last few years to Chartres, France, which I first visited at the age of 21, not realizing this place would have such a hold on me in my future. Chartres Cathedral, built 1100-1200, is still today a mecca for Glass Artists. Built on a plain in the "Beauce", Breadbasket of France, the Cathedral stands as a monument to the finest craftsmen of another epoch. I have befriended a married couple, Jean Marie and Sylvie Roudant at the Centre International du Vitrail (Glass) Chartres. Jean Marie is the Director of the restoration of the Chartres Cathedral windows, more than a life's work. Sylvie is the Glass Courses Instructor. Shop talk… at its finest.
Without the love, support encouragement and PATIENCE of my partner, Jack Williams, my life would be incomplete.
